Warwick Town Justice Court: What You Need to Know If You've Been Charged

A broad-jurisdiction rural town court serving one of Orange County's most scenic and most-traveled communities.

The Town of Warwick and the Village of Warwick operate two separate courts. If your summons reads 'Village of Warwick,' your case is at 77 Main Street — not at this court.

Cases handled at Warwick Town Justice Court

  • Misdemeanor criminal offenses (trial jurisdiction up to one year)
  • Felony arraignments and CPL §180.80 preliminary hearings
  • DWI and traffic-related criminal charges
  • Domestic violence charges and orders of protection
  • Town Code and Environmental Conservation Law violations
  • Animal cruelty cases
  • Landlord-Tenant (Summary Proceedings)
  • Civil matters and Small Claims (up to $3,000)

What defendants should know about this court

  • Warwick is in southwestern Orange County near the New Jersey and New York borders — about 45 minutes from the Rockland County line.
  • Routes 17A, 94, and 1A run through the town and supply most of the traffic docket.
  • Town and Village of Warwick are separate courts; review your paperwork carefully or call our office to confirm.
  • Tuesday-evening sessions mean an attorney appearance is often more practical than a personal trip across the county.
  • Felony matters move to Orange County Court in Goshen once indicted.
  • The Orange County DA prosecutes all criminal matters here.

About the Warwick Town Justice Court

The Town of Warwick Justice Court is located at the Warwick Town Hall at 132 Kings Highway, in a scenic community in the southwestern corner of Orange County. Although Warwick is best known for its apple orchards, wineries, and tourism, its town court carries the same full criminal and civil jurisdiction as any New York justice court — including arraignments and preliminary hearings on felonies, Penal Law misdemeanors, Vehicle and Traffic violations, orders of protection, civil and landlord-tenant matters, Town Code and Environmental Conservation Law cases, and animal cruelty matters. Criminal sessions are held on Tuesday evenings.

Why local representation matters

Yvonne Garbett is a former Rockland County Assistant District Attorney with 25+ years of New York criminal practice. She regularly appears in Warwick Town Justice Court and knows how this courtroom actually works — the calendar rhythm, the prosecutors, the judges' tendencies, and the practical steps that move a case forward. That familiarity is, in our experience, one of the most underrated advantages a defendant can have.
